SHARE INSURANCE INCREASE!
All shares are now insured up to $250,000 until December 31st, 2013
Credit Unions are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund.
Generally speaking, your accounts are insured up $250,000 per person, but possibly more, depending on how your accounts are set up.
An individual account is insured up to $250,000. If you have more than one account that is in your name, the total is still $250,000.
If you have a joint account, both members are insured up to $250,000, for a maximum of $500,000, separate from any funds in a non-joint account.
If you have more than one joint account with the credit union, (for instance, one with your wife, one with a child, and one with another child) you personally are insured for a total of $250,000, and each of the joint owners of these accounts are insured for $250,000. (In this case, a total of $1,000,000.)
